Social-Emotional Learning (SEL)

Building the skills students need to thrive.

Oak Grove's social-emotional learning (SEL) is built on the five CASEL competencies: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. SEL is led by SEL teacher Susie Kiefer.

Grades K–5

Students have weekly 30-minute explicit SEL lessons covering:

Grades 6–8

Students use the Second Step program, delivered by homeroom teachers during classroom meetings and the IE block, across four units: Mindsets & Goals; Positive Sense of Self; Thoughts, Emotions & Decisions; and Managing Relationships & Social Conflict.

Soaring Eagles

Soaring Eagles is Oak Grove's school-wide positive-behavior recognition program. Students earn blue tickets for demonstrating our shared expectations — redeemed through prize drawings in K–5 and as School Store currency in grades 6–8.
