Mandated Units of Study

State-required instruction, and your right to opt out where it applies.

Illinois requires schools to teach certain units of study. Here is how Oak Grove meets those requirements.

Sexual health education (Public Act 102-0522)

In June 2022, the Illinois State Board of Education adopted the National Sex Education Standards as Illinois learning standards. Districts may choose whether to provide this instruction; those that do must use a standards-aligned curriculum, and parents and guardians may opt their child out.

Oak Grove uses Candor Health Education: Grade 5 (Puberty I: Understanding Changes) and Grade 8 (Teen Sexual Health).

Erin's Law (Public Act 097-1147)

Erin's Law requires age-appropriate child sexual abuse prevention education. Oak Grove partners with the Zacharias Center:

Illinois instructional mandates

The Illinois Learning Standards set expectations for what students should know and be able to do in each subject at each grade, emphasizing depth, key concepts, and real-world application.
